![]() ![]() Blake, as a main character, is revealed to come from a Catholic upbringing which has instilled him with a deeply shame-based personality. But it’s in the myriad ways the game does that that things get interesting. Indeed, this is a narrative concerned with stripping its protagonist of all power, forcing him to watch horrible things unfold in front of him. The true horror of this game lies not in its setting or situation, but rather the ways it slowly unravels the player’s morality. Going into Outlast 2, I definitely thought the series hadn’t evolved much beyond the first game’s narrative – just gotten more lenience to get away with some of the most insane gore out there.Īs it turns out, I was dead wrong. The mountain setting and the cult added some sense of dread to the game, but it wasn't as unsettling as the asylum setting and the asylum patient enemies from the first game. The game did give me a lot of scares throughout, but I wasn't traumatized at all from the gameplay, like the first game. While the game was scary, the sequel held back the psychological horror factor unlike the first game where the developers go all out. The answer is no, but outlast two was very damn close to raising the expectations. ![]() When I got to play this game at a friends house, I was excited to see if the sequel actually beat the first game. When I played outlast two, the bars were set very high for the sequels to beat. ![]()
